CONFERENCE INFORMATION

 

Conference Goals: This conference will provide opportunities to network and learn about best practices and tools on prevention, diagnosis and treatment of key women’s, children’s, and adolescent health issues in Alaska, as well as provide the latest surveillance data and research findings.

 

 

Who Should Attend?The conference will be of interest to physicians, private practice and public health nurses, nurse practitioners, midwives, immunization coordinators, social workers, community health aides, program managers and researchers among others.  Also childcare providers, parents, and grandparents are encouraged to attend the Alaska Infant Safe Sleep Summit on Day 3.

 

 

Registration & Fees:

  • • Please submit your registration by September 3, 2010 to ensure that you will be guaranteed a seat at the conference.  The last conference filled up quickly; therefore we encourage early registration. 
  • • Limited student registrations are available.  Register as soon as possible to be sure you will receive the student rate.
  • • The three-day conference fee is $200 ($100 for students) if received by September 3, 2010.
  • • Late registration received after September 3, 2010 is $250 ($150 for students).
  • • Cancellations must be in writing and received by September 3, 2010.  Cancellations will be refunded less a $25 administrative charge.  No refunds will be made after September 3, 2010.
  • • There is no single-day registration fee.
  • • Registration fee includes morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack for the first two days – morning snack only for the third day.
  • • Registration confirmations will be sent by email within 3 weeks of receipt of payment.  Be sure to include your email address on the registration form.
  • • One (1) registration form per person, type or print your name clearly as you would like it to appear on your name badge. 
  • • A registration fee is not required if attending the third day only.  However, you are still required to complete and return the registration form.  The Safe Sleep Summit is free to the public including child care providers, parents, and grandparents.

Location (venue & lodging)
Venue:The conference will be held at the Hilton Hotel – 500 West 3rd Avenue in downtown Anchorage.  Please check in at the conference registration desk located on the 2nd floor. Sign in for Continuing Education (if applying) then pick up your name badge and conference binder or flashdrive.


Lodging:The conference planning committee has made arrangements for a special $99 single/double occupancy rate to stay at the Hilton.  This special rate is offered three days before and after this event if space allows and does not include the 12% occupancy tax.  To make your reservations call 1-800-445-8667 and ask for the “MCH & Immunization Conference” or “MCHIC” Rate Code.  The last day to book a room is August 27, 2010.  Reservations can be made online at www.hiltonanchorage.com type in “MCHIC” in Group/Convention Field to receive the group rate.

 

Parking:The Hilton Anchorage Hotel has agreed to offer discounted daily parking for the conference.  The discounted rate of $12.00 per day is available to you in the Hilton garage, located on the Northwest corner of Third Avenue and F Street.  To obtain the parking pass for the Hilton garage, simply go to the front desk and the parking pass will be given to you.

Other parking options that are close to the hotel are Anchorage City Lots 12 or 14.  Both of these lots are to the east of the hotel on Third Avenue across the street from each other.

 

Exhibitors & Posters:There is limited table space available for exhibit and poster displays.  Please check the appropriate box on the registration form if you are interested a full or half table display.  You need to submit the form by July 1, 2010.  You will be notified by September 3, 2010 if your request can be accommodated.

Continuing Education:
Physicians: Alaska Native Medical Center is accredited as a sponsor and provider of continuing medical education for physicians by the Alaska State Medical Association.  ANMC designates this activity as meeting the criteria for one hour of AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for each hour of participation up to a maximum of 20 hour(s).  Each participant should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of participation in the activity.


Nurses:Alaska Native Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Alaska Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Association Credentialing Center’s Commission on Education. 
ANMC designates this activity as meeting the criteria for one nursing contact hour credit for each hour of participation up to a maximum of 20 hour(s).  Each participant should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of participation in the activity.


Social Workers:National Association of Social Workers – Alaska Chapter (NASW-AK) has approved up to a maximum of 20 Continuing Education Units for attending this conference.  Proof of attendance will be required to receive a certificate.


Community Health Aides/Community Health Practitioners: As Alaska Native Medical Center is an approved sponsor as defined by the Community Health Aide Program Certification Board Standards and Procedures, amended June 19, 2010 [Sec. 3.10.100 (b)], and the content of the continuing education program meets the competencies definition [Sec. 3.10.100 (a)], this program is approved by the Board for continuing education for CHA/Ps- one CE hour credit for each hour of participation up to a maximum of 20 hour(s).  Each participant should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of participation in the activity.

 

Travel Scholarships:

A limited number of travel scholarships are available for individuals who work in the Alaska Native health system.  Preference will be given to rural applicants.  An application must be submitted and received no later than July 31, 2010.
